Assist in the daily operation of accounting department while ensuring adherence to standards required by corporate policies. The Accountant is responsible for the Banking and Revenue portions of the hotel operation.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Business Support, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Assisting with maintaining and adhering to operational and annual budget
  • Maintain and adhere to applicable polices and procedure outline in accounting and finance policies and procedures manual
  • Monitor the completion and distribution of daily in-house reports (F&B, Rooms segmentation, Flash, and Labour)
  • Reconcile and monitor all assigned balance sheet accounts according to the policy
  • Responsible for month-end activities like account adjustments, reconciliation, forecast comparison, accruals and reporting
  • Calculate, post, record and verify financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records
  • Follow up with departments, review procedures and make recommendations to improve the processes
  • Responsible for assisting finance leaders in maintaining general ledger and balance sheet
  • Oversee banking transactions and Revenue processes for the hotel. Take ownership to resolve the issues
  • Administer and maintain hotel agreements and rental/ tenant contracts
  • Oversee the preparation of the daily operational package that is routed to GM and Controller
  • Maintain good working relations with colleagues, CASD team and other departments
  • Conduct employee performance interviews
  • Oversee/ assist general cashier and AP accountant and make sure the coverage in both areas all the times
  • Assist finance leadership team with ad hoc projects and requests

Qualifications:

  • Accounting designation or enrollment in a recognized Accounting Program Preferred
  • Previous hotel accounting experience at a supervisory/managerial level (Minimum 3 years preferred)
  • Self-motivating and have a high degree of analytical ability and confidentiality, and work in a safe, prudent and organized matter
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to motivate employees
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Familiarity with GFS Sun System, Opera, Silverware, Birchstreet and Excel
