I'm from Manchester, UK, but spent a year living in Sooke as a child; I fell in love with the country and until now had only been back to holiday. I'm now travelling around Canada on a two-year working visa. I'm eager to come to Banff very soon to see its beauty in the summer and also get to stay for the whole winter season and try to have a go at skiing in my spare time. I love meeting new people, hiking, reading, writing and yoga. I also try to spread a love of Mancunian music everywhere I go!
In order to save for my trip to Canada, I worked as a server in a restaurant. The role involved building up a rapport with every guest that entered the restaurant, being attentive to each individual’s needs and delivering friendly and professional service. I also work at the bar, which involves making fresh coffees with a machine and a variety of soft and alcoholic drinks. Working as part of a team means that I aim to be flexible and prepared to take on any role to meet the needs of both customers and the team.
Worked front of house: deli assistant, bartender, waitress.
I spent five week working with a voluntary organisation in South Africa. My predominant role was teaching English in a pre-school with children aged 5-6 in which, through creative activities and games, taught teach basic English skills. I also worked within the local community on a variety of projects including basic medical screening for Tuberculosis, building sustainable greenhouses, providing care for elderly residents in a nursing home, and more. The experience aided development of many skills such as greater understanding of issues within the wider world, increased empathy and communication through non-verbal means.
I had a part in a paid performance for an applied drama company in which we aimed to aid the transition for children going to high school. This was an excellent opportunity to utilise my degree.
As a seasonal member of staff I enjoyed all aspects of this customer-facing role in clothing retail at a particularly busy time for the store. Duties included greeting and assisting customers, resolving customer query, cash handling and wrapping and taking responsibility for stock security, appearance and replenishment.
